Deep- A Poem for Speakeasy

This is my entry for the speakeasy competition #161, Deep.


The clouds shifted, casting

an ominous shadow on the ground.

The shadow

deepened, darkened

became solid, became


A hole in the earth

reaching in

coring out

a void to the


a toothache in the world

that still paled

that was still

a mere divot

compared to the hole

you left in my

  1. I like the description of the hole as a toothache in the world. The ending packs a punch, as that hole was made out to be immense and formidable… but it is nothing compared to a broken heart.
